Nakasero —The Sanctuary was filled with joy and praise during the service in which three clergy were ordained in Holy Orders by the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, who is also the Bishop of the Diocese of Kampala, The Most Rev. Dr. Samuel Stephen Kaziimba Mugalu, assisted by the Assistant Bishop, Rt. Rev. Jackson Fredrick Baalwa.
During the service, Amai Sadrack was ordained a Deacon, while Rev. Deacon Sandra Musenero and Rev. Deacon Ben Odongo were ordained priests.
In his homily, the Rev. Canon Jonathan Kisawuzi, former Dean of St. Paul’s Cathedral, Namirembe, who was the retreat leader, urged the new ministers to remain faithful and committed to the calling they have received.
“The newly ordained, and all of us-are on a journey which some have already travelled, others are still on, and others will join later; the journey is salvation. The question we must always ask is: what is our final destination?” he said.
Drawing from Psalm 1, he urged the clergy to resist every temptation to walk in the counsel of the wicked and instead remain anchored in Scripture and accountable to God.
He listed five dangers that can hinder one’s ministry journey: disappointment, indifference, ignorance, disobedience, and willful unconfessed sin, cautioning that unconfessed sin “remains devastating to the Church.”
Canon Kisawuzi reminded the newly ordained that God is faithful to those He calls. “He qualifies those He calls. He will always go before and after you if you trust and obey Him,” he said, encouraging them to remain connected to Christ through prayer, fellowship, and the Scriptures.
The preacher called on the clergy to embrace the spirit of Matthew 5:7–8 by living mercifully, maintaining purity of heart, and being peacemakers in their ministries and communities.
During the service, seven clergy took the Canonical oath of the Diocese of Kampala before the Diocesan Chancellor, Counsel Diana Angwech. These included Rev. Joseph Odiya, Rev. Patrick Balasa, Rev. Ellon Kebirungi, Rev. Canon Dr. Duncans Mugumya, Rev. Florence Tayebwa Muhwezi, Rev. Canon Simon Peter Dembe Lya Yesu, and Rev. Innocent Muhwezi.
Archbishop Kaziimba appealed to Christians to respect, support, and pray for the newly ordained ministers. “Respect those who are ordained Deacon and made priests and hold them in high esteem and affection for the work they do. I commend them to your prayers,” he said.
He also introduced the new Archdeacons: Rev. Canon Michael Mukhwana, Archdeacon of Makerere Archdeaconry stationed at St. Paul’s, Makerere Hill; Rev. Canon Capt. David Serunjoji, Archdeacon of Ntinda Archdeaconry at St. Luke’s, Ntinda; and Rev. Emmanuel Kalagala, Archdeacon of Kisugu Archdeaconry at St. Stephen’s, Kisugu.
The Archbishop also noted that the Cathedral will no longer have the title of Provost but instead that of Dean, and that the current Provost, Rev. Canon Dr. Rebecca Nyegenye, will be the first Dean.
Among several senior clergy present was the Bishop–Elect of Busoga Diocese, Rev. Canon Prof. Grace Lubaale, who will be consecrated on Sunday, 14th December 2025, at St. Andrew’s Cathedral, Bugembe. The Diocesan Secretary, Rev. Dr. Henry Majwala, Archdeacons, and clergy from across the Diocese also attended the service.
