Kampala- June 22, 2025. The Assistant Bishop of the Diocese of Kampala, Rt. Rev. Jackson Frederick Baalwa, has urged Christians to surrender to the leading of the Holy Spirit, describing Him as the essential guide for personal transformation and effective ministry.

The call came during Bishop Baalwa’s maiden pastoral visit to St. Stephen’s Kitara Church of Uganda-Kampala, where he preached under the theme “Being Led by the Holy Spirit.” The service drew a large and engaging congregation who were very attentive as they received the sermon.

Quoting Romans 8:14, “For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God”-Bishop Baalwa challenged congregants to reflect deeply: “Is the Holy Spirit the one leading your life, or are you still leading yourself?” He emphasized the daily need for believers to walk in spiritual obedience and dependence on God.

In his spirit-filled homily, the Bishop outlined four key points on how the Holy Spirit leads and empowers the lives of believers:
1. Discernment in Decision-Making: Bishop Baalwa reminded the church that without the Holy Spirit’s guidance, people are likely to make poor decisions. “God knows your life better than anyone. If He is not involved in your choices, you may end up walking in the wrong direction,” he said.

2. Life Transformation Through the Spirit: Citing Galatians 5:16–25, he highlighted the visible change that should mark a Spirit-led life. “Our lives must bear fruit that sets us apart. The Holy Spirit transforms us from the inside out.”

3. Empowerment for the Ministry: He explained that when the Holy Spirit fills a believer, they are supernaturally empowered to serve with boldness. “When you are led by the Holy Spirit, the extraordinary becomes possible. Every gift you need for service is released in you.”

4. Obedience and Sensitivity to the Spirit: Bishop encouraged Christians to practice ongoing sensitivity to the Holy Spirit’s voice. “Listening and obeying Him in every moment aligns your steps with God’s purpose,” he said.

He concluded with a heartfelt reminder that when the Holy Spirit truly enters your life, you cannot remain the same.

In his remarks, the Head of Laity, Lay Canon Atwiine Frank, warmly welcomed Bishop Baalwa and his delegation on behalf of the parish. He appreciated the Bishop’s time and presence, calling the visit a great honour and spiritual encouragement to the entire St. Stephen’s Kitara COU family. “We thank you for choosing to spend this time with us. Your message has stirred our hearts to walk more closely with the Holy Spirit,” he said.

The Bishop’s visit was accompanied by warmth, celebration, and spiritual awakening among the big congregation of St Stephen Kitara. He was joined by his family and the Archdeacon of the Central Archdeaconry, The Very Rev. Canon Dr. Rebecca Nyegenye, who also serves as Provost of All Saints’ Cathedral, Kampala.
